The Do’s and Don’t’s of Apartment Living

Moving into a new apartment marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter of your life. However, with this accomplishment comes certain responsibilities. It’s important to be respectful and courteous toward your neighbors who you are sharing amenities and common spaces with. Here are five do’s and five don’t’s to keep in mind while living in an apartment.

Do:

Be courteous to your neighbors

Treat others how you would like to be treated! Make sure to respect your neighbors at all times. Always keep in mind quiet hours or specific community rules.

Keep track of rent and utilities

Keeping track of all of your utilities and rent payments can be overwhelming. Make a spreadsheet or list of each utility you are responsible for. Create a method of marking off each one once you pay it for the month. Setting reminders on your phone can also be a good tactic to ensure nothing slips your mind.

Be mindful of your pets

Always clean up after your pets. Whenever you take them outside, be sure to keep them on a leash to ensure their safety, as well as the safety of other pets. If you have a dog, be sure he/she is not barking when you leave or late at night.

Get to know your neighbors

Creating a sense of community is key to making the most out of your apartment living experience. Introduce yourself to your neighbors and be friendly toward one another.

Add your own touches of decor

Don’t be afraid to add personal touches to your new apartment. Rugs, paintings, and decor are all easy ways to make your new apartment feel welcoming.

Don’t:

Paint the walls

While we encourage tenants to make the space their own, please refrain from painting the wall. Do not do anything else that would alter the property, such as renovations.

Forget to clean on a regular basis

It’s important to maintain a clean and organized space. A clear space means a clear mind. Set aside time each week to declutter, vacuum, dust, and clean the spaces you use most frequently.

Disregard community rules

Remember, there are others living in your community. Be respectful of community rules such as quiet hours, amenity guidelines, hours of operation, and respecting others’ property.

Pack too much

Prior to moving into your apartment, avoid packing items that you don’t use anymore. Before moving into your apartment, consider going through your closet and donating items you haven’t worn in a while. Always keep in mind the size of your apartment, so you don’t pack more furniture than you have room for.

Forget about the amenities

One of the main pros of living in an apartment is having access to luxurious amenities. Many of our properties include large sparkling pools, modern fitness centers, pet parks, and game rooms. Take advantage of these amazing amenities, they’re included in your rent.

We hope these do’s and don’t’s of apartment living help you adjust to your new lifestyle. While apartment living does come along with some responsibilities, the benefits are endless!
