Designer Look on a Budget

Decorating your home doesn’t have to be expensive. There are many ways to make your home look and feel luxurious, all while staying within budget. Although these techniques may feel minor, they can have a major impact on the appearance of your home!

Lighting

Dim lighting looks better on everyone and everything. Instead of using harsh overhead lights, try lamps to add a softer and more romantic feel to your space. Incorporating natural light into your home by opening your blinds or curtains is a great way to make your home feel bright and inviting.

Art

Art is a great way to incorporate your style and aesthetic into your home. While many assume art is expensive, it can actually be super affordable if you shop at the right places. A great way to shop for art online is through Facebook Marketplace and Instagram shops. Check out your local thrift store as well to find some hidden gems. If you’re feeling creative, you could even try your hand at painting your own masterpiece!

Vignettes

Vignettes make your spaces personal and intentional. If done correctly, clustering items in your home can look luxurious and organized. You can even switch them up each season. This could give you the chance to decorate your home for different holidays or seasons without spending a fortune.

Declutter

A cluttered space is an anxious space. Clutter makes areas appear much smaller than they are. Try incorporating storage throughout your house to ensure everything has a home. Set aside 10 minutes at the end of each day to pick up clutter and anything else that accumulated throughout the day.

Throw Pillows

Throw pillows should be overstuffed for that luxurious look. Stop buying new throw pillows and instead purchase the covers so you can switch out the look of the pillows. The trick is to buy a pillow insert that is one or two inches thicker than the cover. For example, if the pillow cover is an 18×18, you should purchase a 19×19 or 20×20 insert.

How to Shop on a Budget

If you’re on a tight budget, but want a luxurious look and feel, try these tips to save:

Buy Secondhand

Buying furniture and decor secondhand is a great way to save money! Try searching Facebook Marketplace, Facebook groups, and local vintage shops. These are all great ways to save BIG!

Shop Sales

If you find something you LOVE and you have the patience to wait- wait it out until it goes on sale. Stores often have at least two, sometimes more, big sales each year. The best times to look for deals are around Black Friday and January, right after the holiday season.

Find a Dupe

If you are in love with an item but know you can’t afford it, dupe it! Most of the time it’s easy to find a similar product for a fraction of the cost. One of our favorite tools is the Amazon Lens, which allows you to select any photo from your camera roll or on the internet and it’ll find a dupe for it. You can then browse on Amazon from a large selection of dupes for a fraction of the cost.

Whether you’re moving into a new apartment or just want to spruce up your current home, we hope these tips help you achieve that designer look on a budget!
