Budget-Friendly Ways to Achieve a Designer Look

Decorating your home doesn’t have to be expensive. Whether you’ve just moved into a new apartment or want to refresh your current space, it’s possible to achieve a polished, designer-inspired look on almost any budget. With a few intentional decorating choices, affordable décor, and simple styling tips, you can create a home that feels both comfortable and elevated without overspending.

Designer Look on a Budget

Layer Your Lighting

Lighting can completely change the feel of a room. Instead of harsh overhead lights, try lamps to add a softer, more romantic feel to your space. Floor lamps, table lamps, string lights, or battery-operated candles create a warm and inviting atmosphere while making your space feel more intentional. Incorporating natural light into your home by opening your blinds or curtains is a great way to make your home feel bright and inviting.

Decorate with Budget-Friendly Wall Art

Blank walls can make a space feel unfinished. Fortunately, creating a gallery wall or adding oversized artwork doesn’t have to be expensive. Art is a great way to incorporate your style and aesthetic into your home. While many assume art is expensive, it can actually be super affordable if you shop at the right places. A great way to shop for art online is through Facebook Marketplace and Instagram shops. Check out your local thrift store as well to find some hidden gems. If you’re feeling creative, you could even try your hand at painting your own masterpiece!

Style Decorative Vignettes

Vignettes make your spaces personal and intentional. If done correctly, clustering items in your home can look luxurious and organized. One of the best parts? They’re easy to refresh on a budget. Swap out a few pieces each season or holiday to give your apartment a fresh feel without spending a fortune. This could give you the chance to decorate your home for different holidays or seasons without spending a fortune.

Keep Your Space Clutter-Free

Sometimes the best decorating tip doesn’t involve buying anything at all. A cluttered space is an anxious space. Clutter makes areas appear much smaller than they are. Keeping countertops, shelves, and tables organized allows your favorite décor pieces to stand out. Decorative baskets, storage bins, and organizers help keep everyday essentials tucked away while maintaining a clean, designer-inspired look. Set aside 10 minutes at the end of each day to pick up clutter and anything else that accumulated throughout the day.

Add Texture With Throw Pillows

Throw pillows should be overstuffed for that luxurious look on a budget. Stop buying new throw pillows and instead purchase the covers so you can switch out the look of the pillows. The trick is to buy a pillow insert that is one or two inches thicker than the cover. For example, if the pillow cover is an 18×18, you should purchase a 19×19 or 20×20 insert.

How to Shop on a Budget

If you’re on a tight budget but want a luxurious look and feel, try these tips to save:

Buy Secondhand

Buying furniture and decor secondhand is a great way to save money! Try searching Facebook Marketplace, Facebook groups, and local vintage shops. These are all great ways to save BIG!

Shop Sales

If you find something you LOVE and you have the patience to wait- wait it out until it goes on sale. Stores often have at least two, sometimes more, big sales each year. The best times to look for deals are around Black Friday and January, right after the holiday season.

Find a Dupe

If you are in love with an item but know you can’t afford it, dupe it! Most of the time, it’s easy to find a similar product for a fraction of the cost. One of our favorite tools is the Amazon Lens, which allows you to select any photo from your camera roll or on the internet, and it’ll find a dupe for it. You can then browse Amazon for a large selection of dupes for a fraction of the cost.
