Vacuum Cleaner Maintenance Checklist

Did you know your vacuum requires more maintenance than just emptying the dust cup? Performing regular maintenance on your vacuum can increase its lifespan and ensure you get the deepest clean possible. It is recommended to check and maintain your vacuum about every three months. Always make sure to keep the manual for your vacuum cleaner since each one is different; some may have specific instructions for certain parts. Here is our checklist for all vacuum basics to keep clean.

Emptying the dust and debris

When the bag or dustbin becomes at most two-thirds full, it is time to empty it. Some may need to be emptied after each use, depending on how large the dustbin is. This will ensure that the vacuum’s suction is at a maximum and working at its best. The more full it becomes, the harder it will be for the vacuum to suck up the debris and dirt from your floors.

Clean and replace the filter

Checking on your filters regularly will also prevent strain on the motor of your vacuum. Filters can easily be washed using warm water and mild detergent. Once the filter is completely dry, you can insert it back into the vacuum. You should clean and/or replace your filters every three to six months. Clean the brush roll

The brush roll is where all hair and fur get caught in your vacuum. An easy way to clean out the brush roll is to use scissors or pliers to clip away the fur and hair. Regularly checking the brush roll will prevent clogs that could decrease the effectiveness of your vacuum cleaner.

Inspect for blockages

If you notice your vacuum is not working as strongly, there could be a blockage preventing the vacuum from working its best. Vacuum parts to inspect include: intake and exhaust portions, and the wand, hose, and beater bar.

Clean any attachments

If your vacuum comes with extra pieces, they also need to be taken care of and cleaned. Once a month, pop off the attachments and clean them with warm water, mild detergent, and a cloth. Extra attachments may include extra hoses and vacuum heads.

Now, your vacuum is going to be happy, healthy, and work at its best! If you want to take extra steps to clean your vacuum, you can book a vacuum cleaning appointment so professionals can give a full inspection.
