Have you ever heard the phrase, “out of sight, out of mind”? It always seems to be the places that are out of sight that accumulate clutter the fastest. By decluttering these five spaces each month, you can promote organization and freshness throughout your home. Be sure to add these five places to your monthly declutter list!
Refrigerator
This is one of the worst places to allow items to build up because of the amount of perishable goods in your fridge. Start by removing all food, which will most likely take less than ten minutes. Take a good look at all of your condiments and toss anything that is expired. Finally, use a multisurface cleaner to wipe down all of the shelves and any other reusable storage containers. Refill your fridge, and done!

Pantry
The pantry is exactly like the refrigerator when it comes to cleaning steps. Try organizing your pantry by category. Easy categories include bread, pasta, canned goods, baking, sauces and condiments, spices, and miscellaneous. This is the perfect opportunity to invest in some storage containers, shelves, over-the-door organizers, and even organization bins if you feel like going the extra step.

Under the sink
Whether it’s in the bathroom or the kitchen, under the sink seems like an easy place to keep those extra items you may not use every day. Remove everything out from under the sinks and evaluate what you have. If you have some opened and some unopened cleaning products, put the opened ones in the front so you can be sure to use those up first. Check expiration dates on items like medicines and toiletries to ensure they are still in date. Under the sink storage bins or pullout drawers may be a good solution to keeping these spaces organized and decluttered.

Closet
Have you ever looked at your closet and felt like you hated everything? If so, then it may be a good idea to consider donating or consigning some of your unworn clothing items. A good rule of thumb is if you haven’t worn it in over a year, it’s probably time to get rid of it. We recommend going through your closet at the end of each season.

Car
If you haven’t invested in a car trash can, this is your sign to invest. If you have a car garbage can, all you have to do is empty it when it begins to look full. This prevents receipts or coffee cups from cluttering up your vehicle. Going to the local car wash on a regular basis and doing a deep clean of the exterior and interior will keep your car decluttered and looking fresh and clean. Keeping a clean interior makes your driving experience better and your passengers more comfortable.

These are just a few of the places you should be checking in on every month. It is always healthy to reset your spaces at least once a week, specifically on a Sunday to have a fresh start to the week.
